Growing New Blood Vessels
- 19 November 2019
Dr Patric Turowski will now be unable to talk to group on 19 November 2019 as he has ruptured his achilles tendon. The committee have now secured another researcher, who will be coming to talk to us about his project called 'Growing New Blood Vessels'. The researcher's name is Walid Sweaad.
Criticial limb ischaemia is a condition where blood vessels in the leg become clogged up and cannot deliver oxygen and blood to the leg muscles. People that do not have diabetes are able to successfully grow new blood vessels to bypass the vessels that have become blocked. For some reason people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes do not grow new blood vessels as efficiently. The project is designed to look at why this happens and then develop new therapies to overcome this issue.
